Our Chinese New Year Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Crown Princess Fine Dining in Toronto.  We are pleased to invite Mr. Fernando Moreira, Senior Vice President, Global Insurance, Scotiabank to speak about:

Fernando's presentation will focus on Growth, Customer Satisfaction & Engagement, Price & Value and Risk Management.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Fernando was the CEO of Ping An Direct, an insurance company in Shanghai.  He will let us know how Ping An became so successful by discussing the following topics:

"Risk Based Capital Development in India"

Mr. Steven Chen is a Principal in the Toronto office of Oliver Wyman Actuarial Consulting. Steven has over 10 years of life insurance and annuity experience. He is also a council member (2019-2022) of the SOA international section.

The Indian insurance sector has continued to grow in scale and diversity. The insurance regulator, IRDAI, plans to comprehensively update the solvency regime to a more risk-based approach in the next few years. This presentation will provide an overview of the risk-based capital development in India and discuss the key implementation challenges and potential impacts to the insurance industry.

As a returning speaker, Steven will also give a brief update to the presentation A Money and Information Business: Insurance E-business Development and Trend in China he presented at our club 5 years ago.

Our summer BBQ has returned.  This year, our gathering will take place on Saturday, July 14th, 2017 starting at 4pm.  Guests will enjoy fantastic food such as Hot dogs, Korean ribs, Salad, Fruits, Corn, Ice-cream, Pastries, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Suckling Pig, BBQ pork, etc.  Our summer gathering is a great place to network in a casual atmosphere.  Please see registration form for more details.

Admission is free for 2018 club members and $10 for non-members who register before the early bird deadline (July 11th at 12 noon).  Note, non-members can sign up for membership at the BBQ and qualify for the membership price. Space is limited, so please register early.

In his role, David is responsible for Swiss Re’s Canada-head-quartered global clients, including coordination of Swiss Re’s global interactions with these companies. David has also been involved with product developing, marketing and sales support.

With the current rapid growth of the insurance industry in Asia, we are very pleased to have David Moss give us a presentation of the rapid growth of Swiss Re in Asia.  This will give us an opportunity to learn about the pros and cons for developing and/or expanding business in Asia and an opportunity to ask questions on this fast growing industry.

We held our 24th Annual Chinese New Year Meeting on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Crown Princess Fine Dining in Toronto.  We were pleased to have Mr. Ben Marshall (Staff Fellow for Canadian Membership, SOA) and and Mr. August Chow (SOA Board of Directors) speak about:  "The China Insurance Market" and "What’s Up in the Pacific Rim – SOA in 2017 and Beyond"

Unfortunately, the originally scheduled speakers, Ms. Ann Henstrand (Senior Director, International, SOA) and Ms. Jessie Li (Lead China Representative, SOA), were unable to attend due to flight difficulties.
